The picturesque Ronald McDonald House sits on property next to and donated by the University of Laval’s Hospital Centre. So parents are never more than a few steps away from their hospitalized child.
The now 32-bedroom House has been a home away from home for more than 50,000 families since opening its doors. Previously, they accommodated about 2,000 families a year; they are now able to offer even more families a place to stay after a 2010 expansion added 13 additional bedrooms.
Most families who do stay are there an average of seven nights, and 50 percent of these families are parents who have infants in the hospital’s NICU.
