Sitting on a lovely tree-lined street, Ronald McDonald House Saskatchewan is only three short blocks from the hospital. So parents know they’re never further than five minutes from their child’s hospital bedside, or their infants in NICU. Many of the people who stay at the House are parents of premature babies.
With an average stay of six nights, the House has been a temporary home away from home for nearly 16,000 families since it opened. The three staff members who manage the House are helped tremendously by 150 volunteers, who bake and cook meals for tired parents, keep the House and yard immaculate, host special events and fundraise. The House is all about comfort and cookies.
The operating costs per family, per night are $75, but families are only asked to contribute $10 – but no family is turned away due to inability to pay. House expansion plans are underway. The House will embark on a capital campaign for their planned expansion later this year.
