Ronald McDonald House Manitoba is just down the street from Children’s Hospital, so parents staying at the House know they are never farther than five minutes from their sick child. The House also operates a Ronald McDonald Family Room in the hospital, bringing the comfort and compassion of Ronald McDonald House right into the hospital for local and out of town families to recharge without leaving the hospital.
With wireless internet throughout the House and phones in each room, parents can always keep in touch with home during their stay. Shared spaces, which includes four TV lounges, a games room, children’s play area and fully equipped kitchen, give kids a chance to play together and parents the opportunity to share both their burdens and strength.
Four staff members and 20 volunteers make the House a home and lend a hand where they can, including a weekly Home for Dinner program, so families can enjoy a tasty meal cooked entirely by someone else.
The House has welcomed 14,300 families through its doors since opening, and families stay an average of nine nights. There is often a waiting list of 100 people strong, but most of these families do eventually get a room.
