For 17 families a night, Ronald McDonald House Atlantic Canada is a place where parents can take a break, yet also be available for their sick child at a moment’s notice. Just minutes away from the IWK Health Centre, any family with a child receiving treatment for a serious illness or disability is eligible to stay at the House.
As a result, more than 29,000 families have been welcomed and cared for at the House since 1982. They get support from the other families staying at the House, as well as the seven regular staff and a dedicated pool of volunteers. In total, the volunteers give more than 1,600 hours of their time every month to both the House and the Ronald McDonald Family Room in IWK Health Center.
