Our Ronald McDonald Houses

Ronald McDonald Houses across the country are the cornerstone of Ronald McDonald House Charities Canada and the reason behind everything we do. Each House provides a “home away from home” for families of seriously ill children who are being treated at a nearby hospital.

A Ronald McDonald House offers families a warm, compassionate and comfortable home environment to live in temporarily. It is a place where families can stay together during the toughest times and share experiences with other families in the House who truly understand their struggles and triumphs.

Today, there are 14 Ronald McDonald Houses across Canada, and they welcome more than 10,000 families each year. Despite this wonderful support, there are still many families who need our help and are turned away due to lack of space. Some Houses report turn-away rates as high as 70 percent.

To respond to this ever-present need, two new Houses recently opened in Red Deer, Alberta and St. John’s, NL. And 10 of the Houses are either relocating or undergoing extensive renovations to increase the space available for families. By 2014, we expect our Houses to more than double the number of bedrooms available – going from 219 to 465 bedrooms and family suites.

Each Ronald McDonald House is a “community house” and is independently owned and operated by a not-for-profit organization. In addition to support from Ronald McDonald House Charities Canada and McDonald’s Canada, they rely on you – people in their communities to donate, volunteer and get involved. On their behalf, we thank you for helping to provide much-needed support. It has never been more needed or important.
