In May 2010, the Family Room was opened within the walls of the Winnipeg Children’s Hospital. It‘s a warm and welcoming space that features a large living room with a TV, children's play area, laundry facilities, computer and internet access, bathroom with a shower, and a full kitchen. To date, this 3,500-square-foot Family Room is the largest in the world.
Volunteers are on hand to help whenever the room is open, from 9am to 9pm each day of the week. And it’s open to anyone with a patient at Children’s Hospital. No referral is needed to come relax with other families.
Three sleeping rooms are available on a priority basis to families in PICU, NICU and other areas of Children's Hospital if space permits. Rooms are signed out on a nightly basis and are reserved for families with the most critical need.
