Ronald McDonald House Atlantic Canada opened the first Canadian Ronald McDonald Family Room in 2007, at the IWK Health Centre in Halifax. Open from 9am to 9pm daily, it has a fully equipped kitchen, dining space, living room, laundry room, washroom and shower facilities and an art room. It also has four overnight bedrooms available to the families with the most critical need.
For security and support, the Family Room is staffed with a full-time coordinator and more than 40 volunteers who help throughout each week.
Construction on a new Ronald McDonald Family room in the Moncton Hospital is complete and will open its doors June 6 2011. A part of the Horizon Health Network, the 950-sq/ft space has a large living room and dining room, along with a washroom and arts and crafts area.
